Jim Stauffer is a former community adult educator with Aurora College, transferred to the college’s pilot Centre for Teaching and Learning in 2020 when the pandemic forced a pivot to emergency remote learning. He lives and teaches in an isolated, fly-in community in Canada’s Northwest Territories. He is getting to know his way around education having made a mid-life career switch in 2008, and has earned a certificate in adult education and a masters in learning and technology, mainly through distance education.
I am totally sold on on-line learning of almost every flavour – for myself, MOOCc, self-learning, credit courses, they are the near-perfect answer to my geographical isolation. Connecting with others who have similar interests is a very rewarding educational experience.
